RE: Partially closed campgrounds...

It is always nice when the prices are reduced but if they are not them one has the choice to camp there or not.

RE: Golf Carts in CG!!!

I own a golf cart in a southern NH. There are rules with them and people lose them if they do not follow the rules. I look at it like a boat, we do not have a lake so we can have a golf cart to cruise it. We enjoy it and are careful around campers walking around.

RE: I couldn't believe my ears!!

He who owns the land makes the rules. If you want to camp there you play by the rules. The place we are at in NH has the same rule, seasonal sites are reserved for new purchases from the RV center. You can be a monthly camper without buying but to be a true seasonal, you need to buy. We wanted in so we bought a TT and have since upgraded to a Park Model.

Pray for Ames Brook Campground NH Family

Flash floods hit Ashland NH area and a 7 year old died as the car she was in was flipped and washed away in Ames Brook Campground. Parents and a sibling survived. Our prayers go out to the family.

RE: Better day trip for Kids - Martha's Vineyard or Newport, RI?

Plenty of ideas here. We have been to Newport and the kids tire quickly of tour Mansions so have not been back. The islands are nice, we actually like them, have biked and used mopeds as well as walk around, buy fudge etc. The there is the beach of course which is nice. Nantucket is a little more quaint than Martha's Vineyard but basically the same, the boat ride to Nantucket is a lot longer bur to either the ride is nice and part of the adventure. The Cape itself is nice as well. Hope it all works out for you.

RE: MAINE Campground Suggestions!?

Everyone looks for something different in their camping experience. We have always stayed away from State and other government parks for the most part. The main reason is no hook ups but also no pool, no playgrounds and just basic bathrooms, not always the best. The private campgrounds that we go to offer all of this so that is the route to take. Also, we only go to places that take reservations as we do not want to be shut out. Our favorite area is Old Orchard Beach, tons of activities and campgrounds, most used for us is Bayley's in Scarborough. Bar Harbor is nice and we have stasyed at Hadley Point. The lower coast, south of OOB is nice as well as are the Camden and Boothbay areas. We have also camped up at Papoose Pond which was nice. With all this, we still have not been to the majority of Maine. Anyways, enjoy your trip planning, you will love it.

RE: Bar Harbor & Maine

I would go with Hadley Point and Wells Beach Resort if it were me. Bayley's is nice but it is a distance northeast from Wells. When we are in the Wells area we always drive by to see George Bush.

RE: Central New Hampshire ?

We have been to Lost River and like it a lot. There is no pool and the play area is across the street but it is a nice basic campground. Pemi I heard was nice but some complain about the highway noise, also heard that the KOA is very nice. As others have said, Moose Hillock is nice, it has a great pool area.

RE: planning a trip in old orchard maine

Try this again, original post disappeared. OOB is a favorite of ours. The KOA is on the main drag, close to the amusements like aquaboggen and funtown/splashtown. The beach is about 10 or so minutes away. Head the the pier area. Many campgrounds offer shuttle service, not sure if the KOA does. There are plenty of pay lots near the beach, we always go to Geaorge's as he has showers, bathrooms and changing rooms. Plenty of great restaurants all around. Enjoy

RE: lobster & New England states

It's funny but I grew up on the Cape and lobster was huge at the time, went lobstering all the time with my uncle. As far as Moose Hillock and lobster, I only meant that if you are on the coast then that is the place to get it, not inland. Live on the North Shore now, not far from Essex and Gloucester, usually eat Ipswich clams more than anything else, usually at the Clam Box. Anyway, enjoy your trip.

RE: lobster & New England states

From reading the replys, The Cape or coast of Maine is where to get them. So you might want to have one while at the Cape because while you are at Moose Hillock, you will not be having lobster and just in case you do not make it to Maine, you will have had some. Enjoy.

RE: Conway, NH / Storyland - Seeking campground ?

We always liked Green Meadow over Glen ellis. The other place we use to stay was Eastern Slopes but that is on the other side of North Conway.

RE: Teen's Summer Job

Another reason we went seasonal, the 19 yo son, 16 yo daughter and 13 yo son get made if we do not go camping. If we stay home it is not fun. The 19 yo works some weekends but then can drive to camp if he wishes, last year he was lucky enough not to work weekends. The 16 yo works from home for her aunt so she makes her own hours. The fact that they still all love camping makes it easy on us.

RE: Cape Cod

Our favorite is Bayview which is in bourne, just over the bridge. Lots to do and a couple nice pools.

RE: Boston area campgrounds / activities

Rusnik is nice, it is quaint, well cared for. Commuter rail is out of Newburyport, next town over. The note above about Black Bear is the first nice thing I have heard about it. Black Bear usually has voltage problems, limited pool hours and nasty owners. Rusnik owners are nice. Gloucester is on the commuter rail as well so either place you can get to Boston.

RE: Hershey tour and Amusement park?

It has been a couple years but the tour is not the actual factory, it is a ride through with narration, but it is OK. The gardens are nice because the use cocoa shells as mulch. The park is nice, we enjoyed it, each section has kiddie rides as well as larger rides so groups can stay together for the most part. Make sure you start in the back, we made the mistake of starting in the front and waiting in the lines to later find that the rides in the back did not have lines until the afternoon. Pack dry clothes so you can change after the water rides.

RE: cooking at primitive camp sites

Dutch ovens are good but we just used the table top grill and the burners in the pop up to do the usual burgers, dogs, chicken, steak etc etc. We use our pie irons mostly for pies, apple or blueberry but I have been known to cook a burger or two in them as well.
